Member benefits

Hello, Blipland!

Well, the big day's here and we're thrilled, excited and delighted to finally reveal the full list of members' features.

If you've been keeping up with the discussions, we're sure most of these won't be a major surprise. However, there are a few extras we've been quietly cooking up at Blipcentral which we're rather excited about and know will compliment the site very well.

So here they are - the eleven (yes, eleven) benefits of Blipfoto membership. Enjoy...

1. Full resolution image uploads

Instead of scaling your image down for Blip, upload your original and we'll keep it stored safely. You'll be able to retrieve it at any time and, in the not-too distant future, we'll be providing other things for you to do with your images, like ordering high-quality prints, cards and books.

2. Edit your image on upload

Rotate and crop your image after you've uploaded it, and choose exactly which part of the original gets used for the thumbnail.

3. Bigger images

Upload a full resolution image and you'll have the option to let your viewers click to see a larger version.

4. Blipfolio

A beautifully designed portfolio linked to your journal, with its own unique URL at blipfolio.com. Create up to five categories and upload a maximum of ten fifteen photographs into each.

5. Favourites

Add up to three entries a day to a publicly-viewable list of your favourite stuff from other contributors.

6. Just me

A 'just me' style index of your thumbnails which anyone can see and use to browse your journal.

7. A completely new 'about' page

These new features are going to need somewhere to live, and that's where the new 'about' page comes in. As well as showing your favourites and linking to your Blipfolio, it'll show your most popular and spotlighted entries, and frequently-used tags.

8. Statistics

Privately analyse your views, comments and ratings, the cameras you use, which journals you comment on most, who comments most on you, and much, much more.

9. Open up your comments

Send email invitations to non-blippers you want to comment on your journal.

10. Tutorials

A collection of detailed (but easy-to-follow) tutorials on many aspects of digital photography and working on your images. (We're going to build these up over time, but expect a couple to be available from day one.)

11. Backblip to the day you were born

Got a picture of you on your first birthday? Get it out of that old shoe box under the bed and add it to your journal.

-----------------------------------------------------

Many of the simpler suggestions you've come up with (but aren't listed above) will also be worked on in the coming months and made available to everyone, paying or not. This includes things like navigating journals in different ways, improving the search engine and the way your subscriptions are managed.

We're still on track to have all these features and the full, ordinary membership ready around the middle of the year, but plan to phase some of these features in a little earlier, making them available to founding members.

Now that we have a better idea of numbers, the founding member badges and first batch of Blipcards are being sent off for production. If you've already taken out a founding membership, thanks for your patience - watch the Blipblog for expected delivery dates.

That's it - thanks for reading!
