Out of Africa
R snr bought these from Mr M Batu, a very gifted artist who does his paintings in front of our local supermarket. He does it with oil paint and a little putty knife.
I told you before that R snr is very fond of buying local art, because it is his way of supporting the artists. We have lots and lots of statues and little wooden and copper animals, etc which we will not be able to use in our house in SA once we moved back, because it does not fit into the interior decor there! He says we will use it to give away as gifts for the next few years!! He-he-he
These paintings though, were ordered months ago because he wants to have them framed professionally, with a dark, very hard Zambian wood, to go with the dark wood and dark brown leather furniture in SA. He ordered and paid for five different paintings in this category, months ago, but bought five more when he saw them!
Needless to say, C and I were só worried about that big amount of money he just gave this old man, whom he does not know at all!! But to our shame, and joy, he phoned Saturday morning to tell them he has finished the paintings and they can pick it up at the Supermarket entrance!
