Unusual Apple Tree

Mrs. Oldguy likes plants. A couple years ago I bought her a columnar apple tree. It is supposed to stay as a single branch. The apples grow off the the main branch. And yes, it seems to be splitting at the top, but it does have what looks like buds. Hopefully it will have apples later this year.

PS This apple tree is only about three feet tall.
