The Dale Of Roch

Rochdale, by the river Roch.

For quite a few years Rochdale has been talking about/ hoping for its renaissance and there are some fantastic buildings going up there. It is actually a very pretty place in parts but i am always drawn to the disheveled side of town. They dont help themselves by mentioning amongst famous past residents Don Estelle (a shockingly bad actor/falsetto with more than a passing resemblance to a bean bag with a head) and Monica Coghlan (the hooker who got Jeffrey Archer into hot water).

In the 18th century Oldham & Rochdale had more mills than the rest of the world added together, amazing thought. Now its got empty mills and litter filled canals that dont go anywhere...
