ex-ter-min-ate...
gingerbread daleks. no, really (they're a bugger to ice).
so this was planned as a humorous send-off for the production system as we know it. then at lunchtime, a chat from the editor. only a day after most of us had read about the plans here, so we had an inkling of what was coming. however, there was more... now, 25 jobs isn't a lot when other companies are cutting hundreds or even thousands. but when you see how few bodies we have in editorial... well, let me just say it'll have a significant impact. any readers out there - sorry, but your papers aren't going to be as good as they are now (and i know that's not as good as they were even two years ago, let alone when i first worked there in 2000, let alone in the glory days pre-andrew neil).
luckily i had baked a pretty big batch of cookies, as the newsroom was pretty bleak after that announcement. i'm almost more worried now than i was when my own work was under threat (and it did get chopped back, i've got 40% less money coming in). this will destroy what little morale and dedication to the job is left on that floor of the building.
ffs.
