Time ran out for Vlooi!!

Today was a very sad day for us! Our dear, BELOVED LITTLE VLOOI passed away in the early morning hours, in her sleep, at the residence of an employee of the International company, Pet's Vet, in Lusaka, Zambia. They are the people who repatriate your pets when you move from one country to another.

Vlooi and Diefenbaker were taken to Lusaka, from Ndola where we lived, on Wednesday 15 April, where they were kept whilst blood samples were taken and sent from Zambia to South Africa for tests. According to Health Regulations, they are to be tested for all kinds of possible (and impossible) diseases, before they are allowed back into SA.

They passed all the tests and were to fly out of Lusaka on Wednesday 6 May. On arrival at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, they would be kept in quarantine for about a week. Now Diefenbaker will do it all on his own!

The people in Lusaka were so very kind to her! They realised that, at her age, (she was 15 years old and weighed 1,1kg), she deserved just the best. They did not keep her in the Kennels, where Diefenbaker is kept, she was kept in the office.

They took her home with them at night, handfed her all sorts of treats, let her sleep next to their bed, in her own familiar bedding, which we sent with her to Lusaka. They e-mailed and phoned us regularly to report about her.

Last night she was still as cheeky as ever, chased their cat out of her personal space, with a biigggg noise! This morning she just simply did not wake up. She passed on in her sleep, very peacefully, lying on her side, with her little foot over the eyes, the way she always slept!

We are heartbroken! We loved her só much! She was very special and after Fielies passed on in December, she became even more fragile!

Rest in peace our little loved one! We will never ever forget you!
