backyard bluebells
lovely sunny day, pretty flowers, birds singing...
then i went to work. hysteria set in, as it was better to laugh than run screaming or go catatonic in the face of such insane rota'ing that we had six people subbing 32.5 pages of copy, no-one revising and only one backbencher instead or two or three. the paper still got out tho, which is a shame in a way, as it's my firm belief that only when it fails to come out (or misses the deadline by an incredible margin) will a beancounter or management realise that perhaps they've cut a little past the bone in trimming costs.
and that was only first edition... the backbench chap went home at 1030pm after putting in about ten hours. then the night editor went home, after his standard ten-hour (with no break) day at 1130pm. what was left to look after the last two editions? a pagebuilder, a downtable sub, and a casual sub (that'd be me). thankfully, it being the individuals it was, things were fine. but i'm gobsmacked that someone actually drew this rota and thought it would be ok.

a year to the day (tho not 'a year ago'), it was also a backyard botanical shot

side note: the power of a photograph amazes me...
i'm going to make demands, and you're going to make good on them: good behaviour gets treats - but there's always a reverse, too, so don't let me down.
