Typical Scottish BBQ
It was beautiful weather when we arrived at the in-laws for my Father-in-law's 65th birthday BBQ yesterday. The kids were blowing bubbles, we played Connect 4 in the garden and drank some cider. It was almost like...summer.
The second that the food was ready a gale force wind blew up and almost took off the gazebo that we had erected over the table. We attached it to the fence with some strong string and were just settling down with our grub when the rain started up. We were all terribly stoic and British and brushed off my Mother-in-law's worries that we would all catch cold, refusing to move indoors and determined to enjoy ourselves. My poor brother-in-law Mark, pictured here, was at the end of the table not covered by the gazebo but even with his hood up and being pelted by rain he was insistent that he was fine. Then the temperature plummeted and amidst fits of giggles we finally admitted defeat and moved indoors to eat our (cold) food. Ah well, at least we tried!
It was an absolutely brilliant day/evening and great to be surrounded by family. My Mother-in-law, who's a fantastic cook, had also made THREE desserts - mixed fruit pavlova, lemon and blueberry cheesecake and tiramisu. We played Articulate too with the under 40's against the over 40's. We young'uns won :)
