Ground Zero
A little over a mile from the house I grew up in is Lake Hefner. I have a lot of memories in this part of town. A LOT of memories.
This was ground zero. My life revolved around a two mile square. We walked a lot. Rode bikes a lot. And when we started driving, we drove around this area a lot.
It doesn't look the same as when I was growing up. They've added running and biking trails around the lake. Restaurants and office buildings have invaded the area that couples used to go to watch submarine races (code name for "parking").
And this lighthouse was added.
Lighthouses help you to not crash into the shore. I guess that's what this part of town does for me. It keeps me on course. It's known me in almost every stage of my life. Through many different friendships and life experiences.
Whenever I'm in this part of town, all of those memories and parts of myself come back to me. My first seven years I lived in Colorado. My earliest memories are there. But this is home. Not as beautiful, but it's home.
My parents still live in the house we moved into when we moved here from Colorado. My mom's family is there for the most part. My dad's family here in Oklahoma.
This light house has been here for 10 years, which is hard for me to believe, because I'd never walked out to look at it before tonight. Thank you again, blipfoto, for making me slow down, rediscover and discover things in my daily life.
After I took pictures, I went home. To see my parents, in the house I grew up in.
