Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Day 2 of Water, Water Everywhere

When we agreed to keep great grandson Tristan today and overnight, I had no idea what we'd do with him. I just had innocent confidence that we could take care of him.

So we picked him up middle afternoon from Aunt Dede's home and brought him here. Instantly I realized how non-baby proof our place is. It's been approximately 17 years since there's been a baby in this family.

So Grandpa Fun still is needing to give lots of attention to the pool that was replastered earlier this week, so he suggested that we all stepped outside in the 90+ degree weather so he could could carry-on with the needs of the pool and Tristan could be out of the house and into a place that would be much more fun for him.

Quickly Tristan made his way around the corner to the fountain side of the yard. His fascination with watching the water spill over the layers of the fountain was brief. Soon he had his toys and was discovering the fun of splashing and emptying the fountain with his sand pail. When you're 2 1/2 emptying the fountain is much more fun than watching it.

After a while Tristan was drenched, so Mr. Fun thought the three of us ought to try the spa portion of the pool. I wasn't really ready to do that--the yard is still quite a mess. The fence builder has brought in all the blocks. The patio still needs to be cleaned, and there is still lots of dirt where patio will eventually be. However, Mr. Fun told me to stop my whining and fussing about how everything is not perfect and "let's get in the spa." So okay!

You can see from the last couple of photos that Tristan is losing his fear of water. He got quite daring as he walked around the outer edge of the spa. We finally put him inside the spa with the warm water and he walked the entire circle seat of the spa. We're hoping that as he goes back to his second week of swim lessons on Monday with Aunt Dede, he'll be more comfortable in the water.

Back in the house for dinner, we put Tristan in his high chair to eat and then he played with his little cars and books in that chair for probably two hours while we cooked our dinner, ate, and cleaned-up. He's amazing at entertaining himself.

Then we came upstairs where we've made a temporary bed for him here in our master bedroom. At the moment Grandpa Fun is sound asleep right next to Tristan, as Tristan is busily looking at his books and jabbering like crazy--it's 11 p.m. I think we're nearing slumberland, but it certainly has been a long slow journey this evening to that destination. I'm hoping that Tristan arrives there before I do.

Tomorrow is a big holiday here in the states. Hope everyone has a great Saturday. Good night from Southern California.
