Hot Beef Special in Altoona, Iowa
Beef is a specialty in the Corn Belt of the USA. It's corn-fed beef, which I think is a horrible thing - grass fed is much better for both the cattle and the consumers. But when in Rome....
This two day reunion near De Moines, Iowa has been extraordinary in every way. Even Jeri and I are amazed at the ease of conversation and also of commonalities we share. Old friends we are, but we are somehow closer than friends generally can be. We are more like sisters than friends. We have many of the same dreams and desires and goals...things we have never even discussed until now.
So, to our surprise, after dinner we discovered this unseemly signage outside our restaurant. Hot beef anyone?
Surprisingly about a half hour later the hot beef portion of the sign was removed. Most of the beef they serve is hot, so perhaps they discovered their error...perhaps because they saw these two women laughing hysterically while one climbed up on the four foot planter (where the big steer-sign was) for a better blip view. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure I won't be invited back for hot beef at the Big Steer Restaurant in Altoona, Iowa any time soon.
