Toadally Mad

A pie and a pub

We drove down from Edinburgh to Wordsley (near Stourbridge) on the first leg of a holiday visiting my family. Late getting away (as usual, my fault), arrived at my niece's house just after 8pm. and went straight out again to Mad O'Rourke's where we had an excellent pie meal. Was very tempted to order the cow pie (which comes with horns) but at 4lbs weight thought it might be a bit too much! The first photo in the montage shows the 'Becks and Posh' pie - beef and stilton, served with a choice of chips or mash, plus peas. It was delicious, just the ticket after a 6 hours car journey on mostly motorways!

Then we went to H & J's local the Bird in Hand which is a delightful little pub, apparently in the front room of a house. The history is interesting - "at some stage in the late 1860's the couple converted part of the shop into a beer house at a time when it still possible, on payment of two guineas, to convert a dwelling into a public house and keep it open for up to 18 hours a day. The local glass workers would have worked long, unsociable hours and would certainly have developed a thirst for beer by the time they clocked out so business at the Bird in Hand was no doubt brisk." Business is still brisk and the other 3 photos in this montage show the tiny bar, the covered smoking area in the back garden and the front of the house.

I might have a shot at the '3' competition, but not today! Though 'Bird in the Hand' and two sparrows in a bush was a possibility.
