Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Class Reunion

We went to Mr. Fun's class reunion this evening. He's lived in this city all of his life and since high school graduation, he has gone to his class reunion every 5 years.

When we were younger class reunion was a crowd of people gathered to drink, eat a meal, maybe win a raffle prize, see who would win the award for who had come the farthest to attend, who had the most kids, and maybe who had been married the longest, and then it was loud music and lots of dancing.

This evening was not like that at all. There was a good meal, some drinking, lots of socializing, and then the crowd made a huge circle and passed the microphone so that everyone could introduce themselves and their mate, and then tell a little about themselves. A lot of these people have gone to school together since kindergarten. It was quite interesting to watch people as they reconnected and they swapped stories, memories, and then gave updates on where they live now and what they're doing.

One guy rode his bicycle over a 1,000 miles from Salem, Oregon to our city in Southern California to be at the reunion. One gal came from Hawaii where she is a professor at the University of the Pacific. It was all very interesting.

It was also bitter sweet because of the realization that time moves quickly. It was just days ago that we were all kids trying to figure out who we were and what we wanted to do.

This weekend is also the 40 year anniversary of Woodstock. The two of us didn't attend that musical festival that happened on the East Coast of our nation, but the event certainly made a significant impression on the culture of our generation.

It's been a thought provoking evening.
