Just a perfect day

Today was the day we reminded ourselves that this is a holiday as well as a working trip. Some work to do still: washing, hanging washing out, strimming, weeding, pruning... but also a walk.

We headed up into the hills where we had a lovely walk this time last year. We saw more of these eagles and also some much bigger birds that we later identified - thanks to wikipedia, a bird book and some very grainy photos I took - as Griffon Vultures. The good thing about the long very twisty drive is that once you are up in the hills, you can find nice level walks that don't tire the kids out too quickly. Though we did make the return journey a bit of a climb so we could go and look at some old iron mine workings.

Back home, a bit more work and then carrying out a plan hatched yesterday. Our river, at the bottom of our garden, has a nice little beach quite close to our house. So we headed down there, circled some rocks, and made a campfire. My plan had been to toast some marshmallows - but Mr B expanded those plans quite magnificently and decided we should make a proper meal of it. So we have baked potatoes in the embers, and sausages sizzling away on top. Here is a shot of Mr B returning the Rose wine to the 'fridge' while Conor supervises.

Many, many (groan, too many) marshmallows later, we responsibly put the fire out and headed home.

Katherine declared it "the best day of my life. Ever." I might just agree.
