nostalgia
I've been told I keep things for much longer than I need to. I keep them to keep memories more vivid.
three matchboxes from Berlin, clockwise from lower left:
1. Druide: Absinthe bar Schönhauser Allee 42 Berlin: attained during an evening visit to the bar in Spring of 2008. I went with several people (I believe Paul and Eamon, possibly a few others) and we met two young German girls who were in the process of completing their Abitur exams. We had a nice conversation with them about the differences between the American and German school systems.
2. Volksbühne: This is actually the second Volksbühne matchbox I've attained. The first, which has probably been pictured in a blip at some point, I got while walking around with britni during the summer of 2005. Our GAPP exchange trip ended in a 6-day trip to Berlin, during which we had a few moments away from the rest of the group to explore. We saw the Volksbühne and it looked interesting, so we went inside and took a few matchboxes.
This matchbox was given to me by Andreas, one of the staff members at the Journalisten-Kolleg of the Freie Universität in Berlin this past summer. Coincidentally, he works for a the movie theater that is across the street from the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and has a healthy supply of matches.
3. Havanna Hauptstraße 30 Schöneberg- this matchbox came from a disco/bar/club in Berlin that I visited to take a salsa lesson with Maggy, Kristi, Laura, Alina, Andrea and some of the Russians on the Journalisten International program. It was an interesting night. First I moped, then I had tequila shots, then I danced.
