Departing visitors!
A Blacksmith Lapwing or Blacksmith Plover (Vanellus armatus) couple and a Spotted Thick-knee(Burhinus capensis) couple, saying their goodbyes after a lovely visit!! ;-)
Lillian and I enjoyed these two couples tremendously this afternoon!
We noticed four Spotted Thick-knees that is the spotted bodies with yellow legs, walking on the street, they just simply kept on walking ahead of us, totally ignored us! They even wálked around the corner, and headed to the gate at the back of the estate.
What a surprise when we took the turn and realised they were on their way, by foot, to visit their friends, the Blacksmith Plovers the black and white couple with the black legs! I don't suppose it was far enough to fly over, that's why they just walked over for a wee visit!! ;-)
I am sure the black legged ones are related to the Crowned Plover(Vanellus coronatus), which has red legs. Their behaviour and habits are very similar to that of the Crowned Plover.
