The Now and the Not Yet

This is a follow-on from yesterday, in a way.

I'm also reminded of the Blip I posted last Tuesday, heralding the beginning of Spring as I stood outside with my breakfast cup-of-tea... This image was taken at about the same time of day, but I wasn't revelling in the Spring sun.

The juxtaposition of the snow-covered fence and the empty hanging-basket hook caught my eye.

Tomorrow it is the 1st April. Surely the hook should be supporting a burgeoning floral display, not peeking out behind more snowflakes...! I've been saying for a while now that I've had my fill of the white stuff this year. I've been willing the hook to be full of blooms.

If the hook were in my garden (as opposed to that of my obviously wiser neighbors), the flowers would have been hung out already in pre-emption of summer. And their beauty would have wilted as the snow dripped this morning.

So although tomorrow is 1st April, today is still 31st March. Wind my body-clock back to more youthful days, and to wish away the snow would have been tantamount to blashpemy: The snow was a gift to be enjoyed.

No doubt the future holds many pleasures to be enjoyed. But now is today. Today, too, is a gift to be enjoyed. And all the more in anticipation (not pre-emption) of tomorrow.
