Lunch

Green praying mantis, Orthodera novaezealandiae.

I couldn't help noticing this mantis on a dying angelica leaf as I passed.  Without looking too closely I dashed off for my camera, ghoulishly hoping that it was a female devouring her hapless lover.  But I think it was a male, and he was dining on a drone fly,  Eristalis tenax.

Best viewed in large, if you can stomach it.
