Bommen Berend

Today was "Bommen Berend" it's a holiday in Groningen in honour of the city being freed from the bishop Bernhard von Galen from Muenster. The bishop was called Bommen Berend (Bombs Bernhard) because of the enormous amounts of bombs that were used when he occupied the city (this is the short version of this historic event, for more details see the internet).

There are lots of festivities on this day. Among them a horse show. This horse show had it's 150th anniversary this year, and because of this our queen came to visit. All during the day and evening there was music and we also had fireworks. The fireworks show is always very impressive, it is matched to (really loud) music. Here's a view of the field just after the fireworks show. This isn't an hdr photo, but just a 15 second exposure.

nh was also at the fireworks, we didn't meet up (we were quite far apart) but he also shot a nice picture!
