Eurovision 2010
Another afternoon in Oslo, ditching the boys and the babies for a girly afternoon and late lunch, before joining some of Elin's friends for some pre-concert drinks. We got a taxi out to the venue and spent an hour or two soaking up the atmosphere outside drinking wine from plastic glasses, pleased in the knowledge that we had been a bit savvy by filling an empty water bottle with vodka, to drink throughout the show. We were more pleased to have got it through the screening and security checks on entry though (cunning use of the Union Jack flag that a colleague kindly lent me) and with some clever soft-drink purchasing we saved ourselves some kroner and a few trips to the bar!
The atmosphere was just electric and the entries entertaining. It was well-orchestrated and seemed to go really quickly. The three of us shouted and cheered for our respective Norwegian, Irish and UK performances (although the UK's entry didn't sound very good to me and therefore scored several nil points from our European cousins). We decided to continue in our quest to be savvy Eurovision-goers and left the arena about half way through the voting and scored ourselves a taxi-share with some like-minded Norwegians who were heading back to the city centre to party. We returned to the flat-party that we'd reluctantly left earlier on and proceeded to party with them by going to a bar somewhere in town for a couple of drinks before going onto another house party until gone four, dancing and drinking the night away.
We finally got a taxi back to Suburbia, in absolute daylight, for a couple of nightcaps before finally calling it a night at 6am. *Shudder*.
