'The true meaning of being a devoted football fan has been demonstrated by a homeowner.

Andy Howells says he has made more friends in the village during the past two days than in four years after he painted his house front with a St George's Cross.

The 47-year-old lives between Heston Blumenthal's world-famous Fat Duck restaurant and The Hinds Head.

The patriotic football fan said: "I instructed my builders to paint the flag on Monday as I had been thinking about it for a while. But I needed to find an appropriate time to do it, so decided to do it before the World Cup."

Andy has hit national headlines with his quirky show of support for the England team this week and appeared on GMTV this morning. He is heading to South Africa for the World Cup and will be there for the final.

"I have told my builders to paint over the flag as soon as England are knocked out," added Andy, who also has a passion for motorbikes.'
