Rendered immobile
Dragonflies are creatures of warmth. When it's hot, they're the kings and queens of the skies, zapping around at unrivalled speed and seizing unwitting smaller insects.
Today it was cool and rainy. During a break in the showers, I went out into the gardens to enjoy the fresh air. 'Where are the dragonflies today?' I thought to myself. They aren't hunting. They can't go back into the pond.
Until John turned up, I hadn't noticed this female broad-bodied chaser clinging on. She didn't move an inch. She couldn't.
