Faded grandeur

Catching up today after being made, quite against my will, to go to Bert's straight from work yesterday and spend hours drinking beer before heading back to the village, accompanied by The Pensioner to sup some more.

I like the signs of lost status that hang around Edinburgh. From what I could tell, this New Town house is at least all still a single house so pretty grand but I like the way the Staff and Messengers had a separate bell, presumably to summon a lower class of servant rather than the sort that would greet a proper caller of some standing.
