Happy Midsummer eve!
The biggest celebration in Finland. The Midsummer eve.
We drove to Nauvo around noon. The ferry queue took only around 30minutes, time well spent, that is. Once on the other side, in the island Pikku-Nauvo, the holiday feeling struck me. Driving the beautiful countryside road in one of the most beautiful area of Finland, namely archipelago. Arriving to Kvivlax, the harbor of our boat, my parents were waiting for us. Only a 10 minute boat trip was between us and the summer cottage.
Weather was beautiful, warm and anticipating some rain.
Overall, there were 8 adults and 2 kids (the little princess and my dear godson) on the cottage. Lovely day, filled with joy and laughter originated by/for the little ones.
In the evening, after dinner, we prepared the bonfire, juhannuskokko in Finnish, and heated up the sauna. Unfortunately there is currently a forest fire notice in the area. Thus, we could not burn the bonfire. That means that we'll have another chance to burn the bonfire. Hopefully I am here then to blip the occasion.
Went to sauna around 11pm for a very quick wash. Did not want to spend too much time as I rather went to take some photographs. That was a rather good decision, as it's not that common to be able to take pictures of the sun setting this far to northwest.
In the northern hemisphere, close to the arctic circle, the night is hardly dark. Sunset around 11pm tells the story.
This picture is a panorama from 25 pictures, covering view from southwest to north.
