The crime scene

I got the call, it was a hot day, but work is work. A missing plant you say? We pride ourselves on taking all cases Ma'am, big and small.

I was soon on the track of the culprit, the faint tracks, little hints of spilt mud. My white mack, my hat and glasses were making me the laughing stock of the locals in this heat wave, but persevere I must. I checked behind me for a possible tail, but no - all clear.

Dog tired, I follow the tracks across open grassland. I sniff the air, is this a lead I see? What's that in the grass up ahead? Could it be?

I pulled out the photograph I'd been given. It certainly looks close, although in more bits than when it started out. And there, looking like the plant had been, ... well, ... ermmm planted on her, was suspect no. 1. Halt I barked out, and she froze.

I think I've made my first collar of the day.
