The San Tiburcio
Today we headed out on Bill Ruck's boat mv Top Cat to the western end of the Moray Firth to dive the HMS Tantivy and the San Tiburcio - both of which I've dived before. On the previous occasion the visibility was terrible. We had high hopes that things would be better today since the weather was fantastic and the Firth was flat calm.
We got on to the HMS Tantivy and had a glorious dive, then headed back east to the San T. We were very lucky the vis was excellent with a bit of current to take away any silt we kicked up. The San T was a tanker, she hit a mine in May 1940 and broke in half. We dived the bow section which sits upright on the seabed and it relatively intact, the stern section didn't fare so well.
This is the forward mast of the San T - and a very spectacular dive it is too!
