The Enigmatic Inverurie Horse

The Pictish symbol stone in the foreground has the famous "Inverurie Horse" carved on it and now stands in the graveyard in front of the Bass of Inverurie.

I've had to darken the photo down a bit to try and let you see the horse but I'm not sure how well it has worked (I've stuck a close up of this stone and shots of another couple of the symbol stones here if you want a look).

The image on this stone, although hard to see here, has become synonymous with Inverurie ... even the hanging baskets in the town are held up with Inverurie horse shaped brackets and the image is also re-used in Celtic jewelery ... and we even have an Inverurie Horse rubber stamp so any letters (remember them?) we send out have this guy stamped on them.

Anyway, I love so-called "rock art" like this, even if it is sometimes hard to photograph.
