Hutterite School

In the morning Marian and me had a breakfast at Jack's Cafe in Eastend, Saskatchewan where we met Herb.

He told us about Hutterite colonies near Eastend. Marian and me where very curious to see one of those colonies.

Finally we arrived at the Bench colony - the first Hutterite colony in Saskatchewan. It was built 1952 and ca. 130 people live there (When a colony hits the 140's they usually built a new one and split up). We met Aron and his brothers and friends who gave us a tour through the colony. It was impressive how modern the Hutterites did farming. They used modern technologies in all their chicken, pig and cow barns.

We also saw the school which you can see in this picture. Hutterites only get education until grade 8 and start their work life as a farmer afterwards.

Finally we had a dinner with Aron's family. We thought we could speak in German to the Hutterites, but due to their special dialect - Low German - we could not really do so.
