Day Eleven - Sydney, Australia
Backblip #11
So this is where the timezone thing gets weird. At some point the time/day changed back in the Pacific Northwest of America, while it was still the same day in Australia. But I really wanted to tell the story of this image, and it was officially the next day according to home.
We weren't sure how long we'd be stuck in Sydney, so we weren't sure about heading out into town too far. But we were horribly bored and needed to do something. So my husband's cousin drove through hectic traffic to come hang out with us and took us down to the spot where the 2000 Olympics were held.
The boys found the Olympic rings on a brick patio and were dancing and running all around the circles. I found the water features and was taking long exposure shots of them.
I noticed several small spouts of water and decided to head over and try photographing them on the long shutter to see what it would look like. I placed my camera on the concrete aimed right at the spouts and clicked. The f-stop was at about 22, so it ended up being a 30 second shutter.
As I was waiting (30 seconds is forever), I noticed that the spouts started to move toward me a bit. I was on a concrete path though and figured that it would be stupid for the spouts to spray on the walking path. Well I was wrong. The path was more like a little bridge with open water behind me too.
So as I realized that the water was not stopping, I screamed, grabbed my camera by the strap and ran. As I turned away, the water spouts shot right into my bum and straight up my back! I was completely drenched, while my little boy's managed to escape without a drop.
My husband and his cousin just stood there with big smiles on their faces. They were just waiting for it to happen. This photo is the result of the event, and I think it's pretty cool.
This looks better in large because you can make out the round metal where the water spouts are shooting and the smooth water feature running down just below.
