Dome

I don't often think of taking a photo this early in the morning, but the buses are currently diverted from the Shore (er, roadworks, would you believe?) so I suppose standing at an unaccustomed bus stop made me more observant than I usually am at 7.20 am.

This handsome old building housed the Portuguese consulate for a while but was originally a bank, perhaps even the Leith bank. I liked the delicate contrast of the verdigris dome against the blue sky - although it doesn't look as good on this monitor. Hey ho.

Shortly after this I was on the train down to Newcastle. There were two women in the seats behind me, discussing their friends and family and pointing out local landmarks in a totally unremarkable way until I was startled by the loud pop of a champagne cork. This was certainly before 9 am. The conversation became more spasmodic and giggly and by the time we reached the outlying parts of Newcastle I heard:
"Where's this, then?"
"Is it Manchester?"
On the return journey the train was full of visitors with huge pieces of luggage - still piling in to Edinburgh for that Fringe experience, I guess.
