THE HEAD writer of television drama The Tudors is behind another production due to be filmed in Ireland later this year.
Dublin-based company Octagon Films, which was behind Neil Jordan?s latest film Ondine , is to co-produce the series, which is a remaking of the tale of Camelot.
Filming is due to begin in Ireland this summer and the series will be screened in 2011.
The script is co-written by Michael Hirst, who was behind The Tudors and Chris Chibnall of British dramas Life on Mars and Torchwood.
It is expected that most of the filming for the 10-part-series will take place in Ardmore Studios in Co Wicklow and could see approximately ? 20 million spent locally on labour, goods and services.
The series will be an international co-production between Octagon Films, British production company Ecosse Films and Canada?s Take Five Productions and will be broadcast by US television network Starz.
Octagon Films company directors, James Flynn and Morgan O?Sullivan, are to be credited as the executive producers alongside Ecosse?s Douglas Rae while Michael Parke, also of Ecosse is to be credited as producer.
Graham King, of The Departed, will be executive producer on the show which is to be distributed worldwide via GK-TV.
?The legend of King Arthur is a fascinating story that we couldn?t be more excited to have as our first television project,? Mr King told Variety magazine yesterday.
Mr Rae told Variety the production would be a series of ?genuine ambition on the scale of Rome and Band of Brothers ?.
Minister for Arts and Tourism Martin Cullen, said that a series of this scale would ? continue to build on the excellent international reputation of Irish film talent?.
?Congratulations are due to Morgan O?Sullivan and James Flynn who between them, have a remarkable track record of making award-winning TV series in this country,? he added.
