"Turning Point"
The name Cape Wrath is derived from old norse meaning "turning point" i.e. left turn here lads or you end up in Greenland, or America! Having seen the tide at neaps, and a couple of hours before slack, I think the Wrath bit is just as applicable in modern english - the overfalls went on for miles. Imagine what it must be like at spring tide with a storm raging!
These are the arches and sea stacks directly below Cape Wrath Lighthouse, apparently the view from the sea is far more spectacular than the view from the cliffs, and no midgies on the sea. The gannets were out doing diving displays for us, you can see one in this picture carrying off his catch
The place is utterly captivating and we were very lucky to have such fantastic weather. This picture was taken on the north side of Cape Wrath looking east.
