Rubha Ban

Rab and I stepped out of our canoing comfort zone this morning and headed to the Loch Lomond's North basin. Here the loch is very narrow and very very deep, and is surrounded by steep mountain sides. We visited Island I Vow, the island of the cow, one of the few islands in the north basin. The clan MacFarlane built a stronghold on the island, and much of it still remains. We had our breakfast on a small sandy beach after exploring the island, castle and its dungeon.

This is the view North through a very narrow strait known as Rubha Ban, only a mile or so from the head of the loch.

Another brilliant day and another island ticked off!
