Gjendebu (975m)- (lower) Urdadalstjønne (15
Wakeup at 6am after which I packed the backpack and started to clean the cottage. Went to breakfast at 7am, but there was no porridge. Otherwise excellent serving.
Bus left towards Gjendesheim at 8:05
The boat towards Gjendebu left at 9am and I payed 2140NOK for 16 persons. [Had to use English a bit as I did not quite understand Norwegian]. Arriving to Gjendebu around 10. At times it rained a bit.
The weather was partly cloudy and light rain. I was wearing my GoreTex jacket and trousers the whole day right until the night.
We had two 10 minute breaks before the Hellerfossen waterfall. Stopped for a lunch at the waterfront of Hellertjønne around 13:15-14:15.
At 3pm we met a norwegian hiker who warned us from "big stones". Not worrying too much we continued our quest of finding places for three (3) tent near the Urdadalstjønne lakes.
The whole area was very rocky [in Finnish we have a special word for it 'rakka'] with no solid ground what so ever [see yourself]. No place to put three tents.
NOTE! On the bank of the both lakes there are one (1) place for a tent.
At 6pm we were at Urdadalsbandet and still there was no camping ground visible.
At 7:45pm we found place to put our tents from the bank of the lowest Urdadalstjønne lake.
Eating... Raining...
Once arrived it took 45 minutes to do 'the guide stuff' [including building up our tent for Si&Ti)
Dinner: 4 slices of bread [revitty from Kosken Leipomo], macaroni + minced meat with tomato sauce.
Distance travelled: 10.1km (GPS) + 5.4km (straight line)
Thus, roughly 17km
What I learned today:
1) How to dry chicken and pork (use Mulinex)
2) the definition of glacier: it has to have at least 2m of ice
3) there's no places for tents in the bare mountaintop [> 1500m] ('yläpaljakka' in Finnish)
4) Feelmax canvas-shoes are not good for camping shoes (wet+cold)
Temperature in the evening: 3.4C
NOTE! Heard on Tuesday: Urdadalen means 'the valley of stones'

In picture: The group at the upper lakes. Still almost 2 hours to go. Tired already
