My Bum Thumb

I know, this is a really bad blip, but it was about all I could do. I was cutting chicken last night to make this really fantastic African burrito dish with chicken and sweet potatoes and black beans and lots of spices, and I know it was stupid, but I managed to get my thumb under the knife and cut the top of my thumb off about 1/2 way.

I am not usually a panicky person, but when I saw the top of my thumb sliding around, I was horrified. I thought I had sliced the entire top off. I grabbed a paper towel and squeezed it tightly and kept going around in circles saying "What do I do?" "What do I do?". I was the only one home, and when I finally got myself a little under control, I grabbed my purse and drove myself to the hospital. I had to sit there for 1/2 and hour before they did an intake on me. By then, my husband was there.

They finally took me in to be evaluated, and the doctor decided that it would be better not to stitch it up; instead, he had a male nurse put these nylon strips all across it to hold it together and then, he put glue around it.

Cleaning it, cutting off the thumbnail, and taping it up hurt worse than cutting it. I went home, took some pain pills and went to bed. Of course, I took a quick shot of it before I went to bed, and a bad shot at that. I had to get my blip in.

I hope I didn't gross anyone out with my description.
