There are many beautiful palaces to visit in Marrakesh. Many cost just 10 dirhams (£1) to visit. There are examples of the most intricate carving imaginable, often cool courtyards with trees and water. In many, you get no description at all of when they were built, by whom or for what they were used. There are stories of places being lost for years until being rediscovered from the air!
