Walima (Day 3)

Its not a good day for me as early in the morning honey bee stung my left foot so i wasn't able to wear heals because it was swelled, wasn't even able to walk properly. But somehow capture this one. Surely i am not happy with this shoot but every one on the stage was not letting the bride and groom sit alone and i was tired so just took one picture of both to blip last day but when i see on my lapi it didn't made me happy.

Walima is the final day of the wedding held by couple as they host their first dinner as husband and wife. The groom's family invites all of the bride's family and their guests to their home for a feast at their home or a marriage hall. The walima is typically the most festive event of the wedding ceremony and intends to publicize the marriage.

The bride wears a heavily decorated dress with gold jewelry provided by the groom's family. Typical colour palettes are green or pastel shades. The groom normally opts for a formal Western suit or tuxedo.

One of my favorite traditions at last day is Joota chupai or stealing shoes. it is a tradition to steal the groom's shoes and exchange it for money. So the tradition starts when the groom went to bride?s home and somehow he takes off his shoes. At that point, his saalis or the bride?s sisters/cousins/bridesmaids steal the shoes and return them for some money. It is the job of groomsmen/groom?s brothers/cousins to not let the bride?s entourage to steal the shoes, and at the same time the bride?s side has to try their best to get the shoes and hide them. It is not about the money, but the fun that comes along with the tradition. The bride?s side usually comes up with crafty ways of hiding the shoes. Once the time comes to return the shoes to the groom, the ?saalis? negotiate with the groom and his side for the money. The tradition of ?joota chupai? is a really fun way of involving the family and friends in the wedding. I will end this post with the video of paisay lay lo, jote day do with English Subtitles for your entertainment.

you sinster-in-law of the groom with green drapes
