Catherine Lacey: BoyStory

The promenade, Bournemouth

Reuben and I sleep late after our 9pm arrival and 4 hours crossing London with the double stroller in tow. I'm excited to be out but stop to look at my sister's photographs of family. Callum is sleeping meanwhile at Uncle Joe's. My brother Joe who lives close by is decorating so I have the day to myself with the boys, walking for miles along the promenade, rejoicing at the explosion of colour in the beach huts.

He's surprised we're back so late and has a sumptuous seafood meal served with local cheese and red onion chutney ready for us. They're savvy wine drinkers and there are always great new ones to sample. Having Joe and Amanda cook for us, and babysitting Callum on a couple of overnights has made this Bournemouth trip possible and surprisingly, he's well behaved for them at bedtime. Reuben snuggles up to me in Anne-Marie's bed and sleeps peacefully. He's loving it here.
More beach huts of Bournemouth for my Blip 200.
