Black Queen of the Fair

A magnificent mixture of colours, cultures, people, smells and sounds: The annual outdoor City Fair - opened Wednesday.

What has started as a local event for local products mostly, is now a display of the most unprobable goods: from sexy underwear to screwdrivers, from cell phone covers to louis vouitton handbags, from hot-served flour-based halva or halawa to army uniforms and so on. Multicolored stuff sold by people of all skin colours!

The lady in the photo was siting in a sea of plastic bags, used to put in the handbags she was told to sell. Even so, she had an aura of elegance, as they say, but with a certain sadness in her eyes because she was difficult to smile.

Although she was talking on her cell phone, she had no objection to look at me for a couple of shots. I spent a few minutes there and took her approval of the shots before leaving. She asked for a paper copy and I promised her to go back this afternoon...
