Some rework...
This is the bypass stack (chimney) of the gasturbine of unit EC 20.'
It's used during start up and when the gasturbine is running solo.
The fluegassses have a temperature of app 500 deg C (932 F)
The temperature rises from ambient up to 250°C in a few minutes during start up and further when the unit reaches normal load.
So the material is a bit cracked due to thermal stress.
The idea was good: make sure the limit switches cannot become overheated and melted away again and again and again.
The rather rusty insulation indicates a tremendous heat has caused the zinc layer which was on the cladding to disappear...
So: put the switches a bit further away and extend the axis with the plates that have to trigger them.
But: they fixed the construction with the switches to the main structure....
That keeps in it place while the bypass stack moves when it is heated up.
It moves about 20 - 30 centimeters and the trigger plates "destroyed the switches....
So during start up there was a lot of work simulating the position of the bypass valves which can be seen at the left.
This is in cold position. In warm situation the shaft with plates moves up...
Tomorrow the rework is scheduled.
We (production) have some ideas for the maintenance department on how to do it....
Yesterday we had some cooling water leak.
Today, while the system is still running on cooling down the unit the leak is still there with a piece of wood (broomstick maybe) in the hole...
The small pipes are used for pumping small sponge balls trough the condenser pipes to keep them clean.
Athe end of the condenser some collectors catch the balls so they can be pumped back in.
