Old School

This is a sign that is on one of the buildings I teach in. A similar sign is on the building my office is in. Both buildings were built in the mid to late 1950s when the cold war was in full swing. It interests me that there is also a capacity number on the sign (this one is 410, the one on my building says 435). Being born in 1970, I wasn't part of the generation that put up these signs, but these signs really do speak to the immediacy with which people dealt with the threat of nuclear war 50 years ago.
