Happy Thanks Giving

YAY my favourite non British Holiday.

My Dad met the most wonderful family on thanksgiving in November 1983 in Philadelphia USA. He was in the Navy at the time, when they docked PA there was a dial a sailor message sent out to the community, to take one or two in for thanksgiving. Well Fran and Ed turned up to collect my Dad and Woody. It also happened to be around the same time as my mum's birthday who in that year was pregnant with my older brother. They bonded over this and Fran and Ed pretty let my dad give my mum a call at home, which was expensive back then.

My Mum and Fran then wrote to each other for yrs before in 1994 we took a family trip to the states and spent 2 weeks with Fran Ed and they're kids families. They made us feel so welcomed, and loved. The bond only got stronger and Turkey Day became the time we visited next and now try and aim for when we visit them. This year we have known them all 27 yrs. They say you cant pick your family, but the Zimmerman's truly feel like an extra set of grandparents.

From 2007 onward I have had a new tradition back home. I took my best friend Toni to meet the American family that yr and we discovered the black Friday sandwiches from Reading Terminal in Philly. Its basically Turkey, Cranberry sauce and Stuffing, yum! Each yr since Toni and I have tried to recreate it, well we think we got close this yr! so here's our roasted Turkey Breast - the main ingredient!
