Water Experiment No. 1

I have decided that I am going to do a few experiments with water! I love water shots and how it can take so many different forms. After being inspired yesterday by blipper and allfiredup, I thought my first experiment should be the old 'capturing the water coming out of the burst balloon'!

I looked up a few tutorials on the internet and decided to use my macro lens and my Tv shutter priority setting on the camera. I got some balloons ready and while waiting for my friend, Jess, to come over and help me, I decided to have a go myself with my remote shutter release cable and a knife! I hung a balloon from the clothes line, then poked it with the knife while pushing the shutter release with my other hand. The camera was set to continuous shooting mode. My first attempt turned out really well, but the camera was a bit too close and it cut off the the bottom of the splash. I shifted the tripod away a bit further but then I couldn't reach the balloon to pop it!

I then decided I would try to throw the knife at the balloon in the hope that the blade would pop the balloon!! It didn't pop it, but it did hit it, and bounced off!! By then Jess turned up so she used the knife while I used the camera!!

We tried about 10 times with varying results! I downloaded all the pics then cropped them and increased the shadows in Picasa to make the background darker. This one I have chosen was the best shape and using a white balloon. Other ones were using red or blue balloons so the colour was better but the shape of the water wasn't as good!!

We had so much fun with it, I will definitely try it again! There are a few more water experiments I want to try as well so watch this space!!

In other news, we put up our Christmas tree tonight!! Spence was so excited!! He loved putting all the little baubles on the branches and the fairy on the top! We turned on the lights and watched the fairy's wings light up and change colour!

Kaz and I went shopping this morning (Spence was in daycare) and we picked up a Chuggington advent calendar which Spence also loved when we let him open number one this afternoon and he could eat the chocolate!!

We explained to Spence how Santa comes on Christmas Eve and puts presents under the tree for people who have been good boys and girls. He asked a few times after that if it was Christmas yet!
