couches in alleys

it's funny how life turns out

previously on "this aussie life..."
strong "tail winds" caused my plane to be delayed for two hours, which caused me to miss my flight to chicago, leaving me stranded in an entropic place in the belly of a beast that is californ-i-a. a direct flight from l.a. to my hometown is booked for later that night.

and now the thrilling conclusion of "this aussie life..."

i wait the neary two hours in the line to get my bags checked and get my ticket. as i wait in another line for yet another search in the seemingly endless cycle of "screenings", the attractive person standing behind me catches my eye. eventually conversation begins and we find we have a lot in common, including living in the same hometown and sharing the same major (film). we continue to converse as we wait for the flight to board, interrupted only briefly as i am pulled aside for "random baggage check" (i am not sure whether to feel violated or honored, since they apparently assume i look bad ass enough to be a threat).

the conversation ends as we board the plane and realize we are seated several rows apart. after landing however i mention how it would not be an impossibility for us to hang out as we live in the same city. emails are exchanged.

also upon landing i am greeted by my "summer best friend" and my cousin, who drives me home, a drive i haven't taken in almost a year. it is very dream like in an extremely off putting way.

after a six hour "nap" (by this point i had been up 38 hours straight) in which my phone shut off and i missed a call from sally to help her move out (i still feel guilty) i wake up and go to meet a group of friends at our favorite local pizza place. we move the gathering back to a friends house where we watch nacho libre (not my choice).

and, among friends, so ends this particular chapter of "this aussie life..." (new season may begin as early as may of 2007).
