Looks Good To Me

Winterizing the Zodiac

The schooner Zodiac is getting her winter cover built down at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. I don't know why it wasn't started earlier -- we've had several nasty storms already.

The Zodiac is missing her mainmast, which broke during a cruise in September. The foremast had already been replaced by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, and they'd been looking within Washington state for a year to find a tree big enough for a new mainmast. After the mast broke, the search area was expanded, and a suitable tree was found in Oregon.

The tree, a second growth Douglas Fir, was delivered to the Historical Seaport's Spar Shop on November 30th. The 117-foot (37 m ) mast will be the largest spar ever turned on the shop's lathe and is scheduled to be completed in January.

I don't know how they'll get the mast to the Zodiac through the streets of Fairhaven, but I hope to be there to blip it.
