101 Uses for Snow...
#2: melt it in a pan and use it to flush the toilet (#1 was take photographs of it).
OK...this snow has stayed well past it's welcome. After finally being defeated by it yesterday I got up this morning to find that we had no water. It seems that the supply pipe to our house has frozen in the exceptionally cold weather. Of course this isn't the water boards responsibility but is down to me, the houseowner. The man at the water board was very sympathetic on the phone (after an hour long wait on the emergency line...quite understandable in the current climate) but the only advice he had was for us to wait until the pipe thawed. Well the temperature has warmed up from about -16 centigrade to a positively tropical -5 centrigrade this evening so I reckon we have a few days wait for the thaw to set in.
In the meantime we will continue to think of novel ways to use our only plentiful source of water...so far we have flushed the toilet with it and washed in it (suitable thawed and warmed of course). Bathroom is looking a bit surreal as the bathtub has been filled with snow so it can defrost into toilet flushing water.
On the grand scheme of things not a particularly bad situation, we have heat, light, electricity, shelter, food, drink and entertainment....a hell of a lot more than the homeless at the moment!
We also still have a sense of humour which is just as well since it's 'snow joke having snow water' (sorry, I did say we still had a sense of humour, I didn't say it was a good sense of humour !)
