5 Days Later

Just 5 days ago, this is what the creek behind our house looked like, safe enough for me and my son to walk on it, now as you can see, no more. It has been oddly warm the last 2 days. Ironically this mornings training at the fire house was ice rescues. We had 3 members in dry suits, one would actually walk out to a weak spot in the ice (on the lake) and intentionally fall through and have to be rescued. 1 rescuer would go out, tethered to his "tender" (his partner on shore) and rescue the victim, which meant going in the water as well, and having the crew on shore pull them both up out of the water and across the ice. It was fun and good practice, for something that, with this weather, will sadly be needed this season.
