House Construction 14 - Gas
A big day at our new house. The sheetrock was delivered, and transferred with the truck's crane through windows on the ground and upper floors. They will start hanging it on the interior walls tomorrow.
Even more interesting for me was the process of establishing the gas connection, blipped here. First they dug a trench in the middle of the street, to reach the gas main. They also dug a hole at the corner of the house (a bearded worker is standing in it, just behind his colleague who is unrolling the flexible gas line). View it LARGE.
To make the connection they used a kind of pneumatic drill (visible at the left corner of the trench in the street). It drilled through from the house to the main in about 10-12 minutes--amazing! Then they pulled the gas line through the horizontal hole they'd just drilled-that took longer.
The last previous construction blip is here, with links to previous ones.
I will miss the final stages of building the house, since we are leaving tomorrow for three months in Paris. It should be finished in the next couple of months and we will occupy it after our return in the spring.
