Too old to die young

Discovery

Monument in central Northampton dedicated to the scientist Francis Crick who was born here. Together with James Watson he discovered the double helix structure of DNA at Cambridge University which is not far from here. Certainly one of the greatest scientists and Nobel prize winner this area has produced.
This sculpture is a steel double helix with two identical "non gender specific" figures at the top. (I think the committee chickened out of having to show genitalia) They look a bit like divers. It was designed by the artist Lucy Glendinning. She seems to like people with very serene smiles and has used figures which look like divers in other works.
