Lemonitissa
During the summers months, everday I am asked countless times by daytrippers 'how do I get to the church?' As a naturally sarcastic person I am always tempted to say 'which one?' (Symi is rumoured to 365) sometimes, when I'm not in a very patient mood I say exactly that. If I'm feeling rather more helpful, however, I point them in the direction of the subject of today's Blip, because this is the church they are looking for.
This is Lemonitissa. It is situated up in the village but can be seen very clearly from the harbour. Unfortunately, without a better zoom I couldn't get a good shot of it at it's best angle so you don't quite get the reason why people notice it and you certainly don't get a proper idea of how impressive it looks, sitting on the hill, surrounded by evergreens.
Until today, I had never been this close. I wasn't disappointed, except for the fact that the gate was padlocked so I couldn't get into the courtyard area to find some other angles. This is a shot of the dome, taken from the road which runs behind the church.
